(You do not need to set up a Yahoo e-mail address.)
2. To register an ID with Yahoo! Groups:-

g). Press the 'Submit' button at the bottom of the page.
3. Having registered, you may have to link your Yahoo ID to your usual e-mail address as follows:
a). With your Internet browser, go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/electric_clocks
b). Click on 'Sign In' at the top right of the page. Then enter your Yahoo ID and password and press the 'Sign In' button.

Download your e-mails and get the authorisation code number. Back in your web browser, enter the code number in the box and press the 'Continue' button.
f). Enter your Yahoo password and press the 'Continue' button.
g). The connection should now have been made between your e-mail address and Yahoo ID. Click on the 'View my Groups' button.
h). Click on the 'electric_clocks' group link, and you should be taken to the 'Electric Clocks Forum' web page as a recognised member of the group.
i). In future, access to the Forum's website is as stated in 3)a) & b) above.
4). The 'Electric Clocks Forum' website allows you to:-
- Change how you recieve e-mails:- individual e-mails; a daily digest all in one long e-mail; or no e-mails i.e.by looking at the website. [Click on 'Edit my Membership' to make changes] The website option is useful if you're going on holiday, to save filling your mailbox. You do NOT need to de-register from the Forum during a temporary absence.
- View a permanent archive of past postings - useful for new members to see past topics and continue the threads if they wish.
- Change the e-mail address to which you want mails sent (e.g. if you change service provider). [Click on 'My Preferences' to make changes]
- Put up a brief personal profile of yourself including a picture if you dare. [Click on 'Account Information', then click on 'Edit/Create Profile', then click on 'Edit', then click on 'Edit Profile Information' to make changes]
- View the members list and thus members' profiles.
- View and Create 'Files' to post pictures and documents for viewing by other members. Please use sparingly as limited space is available. [Click on 'Files' on left hand side of main web page and follow hyperlinks]
5. Please take the trouble to register with Yahoo! Groups - there is no charge, and no hidden disadvantages that I've spotted yet, but there are many advantages.
6. Attachments to e-mails are permitted so that you can include a picture relevant to something you've written in an e-mail posting. Please only use the facility for posting relevant JPG, GIF, etc compressed image files, and please try to keep the file size down - the images will only be seen on a computer screen, and high resolution is not necessary. A file size of around 20k - 40k should be adequate. If higher resolution images or large files are involved, please use the 'Files' section of the website (See 7 below). Please do not attach EXE files or Word DOC files as there is a real virus risk there and they are not universally readable - use TXT for text please.
7. Pictures and documents can be placed in the 'Photos' and 'Files' sections respectively of the Forum's website. This is a very easy process using hyperlinks on the website. Members can create their own folders in the 'Files' section for this purpose. Please name the folder with the subject matter not your own name. You can upload a file into any folder, but only the file's creator (and the group's owner/moderators) can delete a file. If space is getting short, the owner will delete the oldest files to create more room.
8. All replies to posted messages should be sent to the Forum and not to the individual's personal e-mail address as replies are likely to be informative to other Forum members.
9. It is hoped that most members will provide a profile of themselves on the Forum's website. Profiles of members can be viewed from the 'Members' page by clicking on the member's name in 'Yahoo ID' column.
Regards,
Martin Ridout.

General Notes (on changing ISP etc)
TO CHANGE THE EMAIL ADDRESS YOU USE WITH THE ELECTRIC CLOCKS FORUM.
There are two ways to do this:- change your membership details within
Yahoo Groups; or re-suscribe with your new address then un-subscribe
from your old address.
1). Change your Yahoo membership details:-
Sign on to the forum website. Then click on 'Edit my membership' in
the top right of the screen. Add your new email address by clicking
on 'Add new address' and then select the new address in the drop-down
box. Click on 'Save changes'. You should be sent an email with a
confirmation code number (to check that you are the owner of the
email address) which you enter in the appropriate box on the Yahoo page.
2). Un-subscribe and re-susbcribe:-
You will need to set up your new ISP before leaving your old one, and subscribe to the Forum
using the new e-mail address before unsubscribing from the old address. So:-
(i) Send a blank message from your NEW email address to:- electric_clocks-subscribe@yahoogroups.com Your subscription will be approved in the normal way.
(ii) When you start receiving messages at the NEW address, then unsubscribe your old address by sending a blank message - from the OLD address - to:- electric_clocks-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com
To continue using the Forum's website, you will need to link your Yahoo ID with the new e-mail address. See the instructions in the Welcome message (Section 3 of the 'Useful Hints').
TO SUSPEND EMAILS, FOR EXAMPLE WHILE YOUR ARE ON HOLIDAY.
Go to the Forum website and sign in. Click on 'Members' in the menu on the left of the screen. Find your membership entry and use the drop-down box at the right of the screen to alter your email requirements. Do the reverse to restart emails again.

Notes for the use of the 'Files' and 'Photos' areas of the website.
If you wish to post a PHOTO, it is simplest to use the 'Photos' section. Uploading is simple, and thumbnails can be rapidly viewed. Just follow the links.
If you wish to post a DOCUMENT (text, Word, Excel etc) then the 'Files' section is best. Although you ~can~ upload the file straight into this area, it will be easier for others to navigate if you first create a folder in the 'Files' section with a name relevant to the subject of your file(s) and then open the folder and put the file(s) in that folder. Originally it was thought that folders with members' names would be best, but I feel that subject matter is more important than who posted it. Again, just follow the links on the website.
It is up to individuals downloading files to check for virus contamination before opening them.
