Metamec Quartz Mantel Clock
(Electronic)
Quartz clocks were first manufactured in large quantities for domestic use from around 1975. This clock dates from that early period; the 4.194MHz crystal is dated 9-75, so the clock was perhaps made in 1976. The name on the dial is Metamec and the clock was made in England, but
the movement is a Kundo 3000 from Germany, made by Kieninger & Obergfell.

It operates from one battery (some of the early quartz clocks required two) and has an 8-pin integrated circuit for the divider circuitry and two discrete transistors to drive the fairly large stepper motor (lower left, above the battery). |
